Intact, well-kept leather is essential to preserving the original character of an Eames lounge. Once the leather cracks or wears, the chair appears worn and tired — regardless of the condition of the shells beneath. Depending on your chair’s condition, we can restore, color-match, or fully replace the leather — and we build new cushions for Eames Lounges of any era.
Restoring worn leather
If your leather is chafed or worn but free of significant tears or rot, we can bring it back to near-perfect condition. Our process sands down the original painted leather, prepares the surface, and applies a new coating made specifically for leather. The coating preserves the leather's flexibility while being durable enough to clean — so the chair looks right for its age, not artificially new.
Color-matching a single cushion
If only one cushion is damaged, there's no need to replace the whole set. Whether your cushion set is brown, tan, off-white, or any other color, we can color-match the affected cushion so it blends seamlessly with the others — saving you the cost of a full replacement.
New custom leather cushions
When a cushion is past restoring, we can fabricate new cushions — a service that few others can provide. We are the only company in the country offering authentic cushion design and materials for Lounges manufactured between 1956 and 1970, featuring down-filled cores, fiberboard backers, reverse zippers, and pancake snaps. For Lounges made from 1971 to the present, we offer new-style cushions with foam cores and plastic backers. Either way, your custom-made cushions will be correct for your chair's era.
Zipper & backer replacement
The cloth that holds the zipper to the leather and backer is often one of the first things to fail on an Eames Lounge cushion. We replace worn-out zippers and backers while maintaining your original leather. We offer both old-style fiberboard backers and new-style plastic versions, matched to your chair.
Ship it in from anywhere
About 70% of the chairs we restore are from outside Massachusetts. Send us your photos, we'll provide a quote, and we'll tell you exactly how to pack and ship the chair so that it arrives safely.
To simplify the shipping process, we can send you a box that includes a return label and packing materials. You only need to ship the parts that require repair. While some disassembly may be necessary, it's a straightforward process. An instructional video on how to disassemble an Eames Lounge appears at the bottom of this page.
Please be sure to pack only the parts we need to fix. You can call UPS to arrange for a pickup at your home. We insure all packages for peace of mind. After we complete the repairs, we provide another detailed video on how to reassemble your Eames Lounge. We have found this method to be safe, efficient, and cost-effective.
